Commissions Gallery

Both Sam and I do commissions for building model kits. Below are some examples of kits that I have done for people in the past. If you are interested in having a kit built and require further information please email me.

This commission was a follow on from a previous build of the Hasegawa 1/48 Phantom. The customer wanted the aircraft in the marking of 809NAS on the final HMS Ark Royal cruise. The kit used was the 1/48 Airfix Buccaneer SD2 built with the addition of the Neomega resin cockpit set. A lot of work had to be put into this kit as the fit of parts was terrible. It was painted with Xtracolor and Tamiya paints. I used the Model Alliance decals and altered some of them to give the correct serials. The boarding ladders were scratchbuilt from plastic rod. A blog of this build can be found here.
This kit was not exactly a commission but more of a kit for personal reasons. The kit was built from the Airfix kit and was painted to represent Lancaster DS720 KO D of 115 Sqn Royal Air Force. This was the aircraft of my Great Uncle Bill who tragically died during a bombing raid on Brunswick on Jan. 14, 1944. The model was presented to my Grandfather as a memoriam to his brother. The kit was a standard build 'out of the box' build and painted with Tamiya paints.the decals used were spares from a Revell kit as they were better detailed than the Airfix kit the serial codes were from Carpena. Only once I was researching further during the decalling that I discovered that the kit is not 'technically' correct for the serials I was doing as the aircraft should be a mark II with radial engines. The base was a piece of MDF covered with static grass and airbushed in patches with a darker green. Regardless of the wrong aircraft mark, my grandfather was over the moon when I presented this to him.
This commission was the first of a four part commission for an old work colleague who is a big racing fan. The first car was Tamiya's 1/20 Honda MP4/4 kit. The kit was built 'out of the box' with the only addition of an aftermarket etch metal and fabric seat harness. The paint finish was a combination of Halford's Car paints and Tamiyas own spray paint. The decals were an aftermarket set to provide the 'Marlboro' logos as they are not provided in the kit.
This commission was the second of a four part commission for an old work colleague who is a big racing fan. This was Tamiya's Porsche 962c Dunlop/Shell kit. The kit was built 'out of the box'. The paint finish was entirely airbrushed with Humbrol gloss paints. The decals were also the kit provided markings.
This commission was the third of a four part commission for an old work colleague who is a big racing fan. This was Tamiya's 1/20 Ferrari 312 (clear cowl) kit. The kit was built 'out of the box' with the only addition of an aftermarket etch metal and fabric seat harness. The paint finish (apart from the clear parts) was entirely airbrushed with Humbrol gloss paints. The decals for Gilles Villeneuve were also the kit provided markings.
This commission was the last of a four part commission for an old work colleague who is a big racing fan. This was Tamiya's Brabham BT46 Alfa Romeo (clear cowl) kit. The kit was built 'out of the box' with the only addition of an aftermarket etch metal and fabric seat harness. The paint finish (apart from the clear parts) was entirely airbrushed with Humbrol gloss paints. The decals were also the kit provided markings. as the car had on drivers name I used the helmet from the provided driver and hollowed out the head I then detailed the helmet to match the car and placed it on the back of the body shell to show that it was Nikki Luada's car
This Commission was a follow on from a previous build of an Airfix 1/48 EE Lightning. The kit was the Hasegawa Phantom FGR.2 and built 'out of the box' finally it was painted with Xtracolor paintsand decalled with the marking that the customer provided.

I cant really remember much about this kit as it was built early in my modelling career. All I can remember is that it was built 'out of the box', painted with Humbrol paints and the kits decals were used.
